Why We Avoid Toxic Preservatives
Preservatives are chemicals used to increase the shelf life of a product, which can be hazardous to the body. We only choose products with safe, natural preservatives your body can metabolize or preservative free in order to limit your exposure to potentially harmful chemicals. Preservatives cause many disruptions in all systems of the body including lymphatic, respiratory, gastrointestinal, immune system and nervous system.
In IV Therapy, it is even more critical to ensure we only infuse safe, gentle, or naturally occurring preservatives or preservative as absorption rates increase and occurs faster through intravenous administration. The reactions or disruptions are often greater and can cause more serious adverse reactions when introduced to the bloodstream vs orally ingested or topically applied.
Why We Use Benzyl Alcohol as a Preservative
We do not use any synthetic or chemical preservatives in our IV’s, we only use Benzyl alcohol as required by pharmaceutical standards to ensure the product is anti-microbial. This is a natural preservative derived from various plants like the saw palmetto or basil, and can also be found in tea tree oil. In the body, benzyl alcohol is metabolized into benzoic acid and its conjugates as hippuric acid. These are metabolized naturally and easily within the body with no interactions, disruptions or otherwise harmful effects.
